1. Students are well equipped with thorough knowledge of the system of Indian music and develop them with presenting skills, research skills and also teaching skills. The students are imparted knowledge balanced with historic, theoretical and practical knowledge.
2. Students are encouraged into research in the field of music, or showcase them as successful performers, competitive teachers and professors of music with the knowledge gathered during the course.
3. The meticulously drafted syllabus of the MA Programme lays a strong foundation and also expertise in the field of Indian Music for the students to preserve the history, to give shape to the present and develop the future. The course makes the student understand and preserve the value of the art and culture of India through music.
4. Individual students are groomed according to their interest and field during the course. Voice culture courses, instrumental music courses, devotional music courses are all linked to the main program to get the best out of the candidate. The student develops the skills of a good and competitive musician and musicologist at the end of the course. Students obtain substantial knowledge about the history of Indian music during the study of the two comprehensive theory papers, History of Music – Tamil tradition and History of Music – Sanskrit tradition.
5. The Kalpita Sangita papers enrich the students with compositions of different composers across time periods and in different languages. Thus, the repertoire of the student is highly fulfilling.
6. Students are trained in performance style with a very strong theoretic background and are capable to showcase the same at the end of the course.
7. Knowledge and skills: Ability to exhibit various important theoretical aspects in Music Texts, (Lakshana grantha-s), Notations in various south indian regional languages, performing music, evolution of music and its several elements like raga, tāla etc is developed during the course. Knowledge pertaining to structure, tuning, playing techniques of Musical Instruments, regional music, devotional music, compositions of various composers is imparted to the students. Importance to both classical music and Tamil music is given in the course. Important texts in literature that have references to ancient Tamil music, pans and their varieties, Tevaram, Thiruppugazh, Nalayira Divya prabandham and other devotional hymns are taught to the students. Composition from the opera of the nauka caritram and Nandanar caritram are part of the syllabus. The programme curriculum is a preparation for the students as a performer, as a teacher, as a musicologist as per their interests.
8. Skilled communicator: Students develop presentation, expression, writing, elocution and debating skills in the subject of music through the course. This is exhibited in their performances, project presentations etc.
9.
