Our Statistics MSc will provide you with the essential knowledge and skills relevant for a career as a professional statistician or researcher.

As the data we generate increases, so does the global demand for analysts who can apply modern statistical methods, to make sense of it. In-depth understanding and skills in statistical techniques have a broad range of applications in the modern world. Thanks to the more widespread use of data and statistical analysis required to interpret it, career opportunities for statisticians are expected to grow in areas including:

  • pharmaceuticals
  • finance
  • business analytics
  • healthcare
  • government policy
  • social media and technology
Course structure

In the Autumn semester you will study the core fundamentals of statistical inference and modelling. This will provide a firm foundation for the Spring semester that includes optional modules covering topics in Statistical Machine Learning, Time Series and Multivariate Statistics.

You will develop advanced statistical skills and knowledge which will enable you to test theories, learn how to interpret large and complex data, and to extract relevant insights from it. The masters will enable you to develop computing skills in using R too.

In the summer you'll complete a dissertation. This will be in collaboration with staff from within the school, often led by experts from the internationally recognised Statistics and Probability section, or one of our industry partners such as Capital One.
