This curriculum leads to the degree bachelor of music. This degree is more specialized and contains fewer general education requirements than the bachelor of arts degree with a major in music. Students in this curriculum choose between options in education, performance, and composition. To obtain a bachelor of music degree, a student must earn a minimum of 125-146.5 credits (depending on the option chosen) including a minimum of 32 credits in residence at Iowa State University and a minimum of 45 advanced credits in courses numbered 300 or above and must meet all of the requirements specified below. Courses taken on a pass/not pass basis may be counted toward the required total credits, and may be used to meet the advanced credit requirement, if appropriate, but may not be used to satisfy any other graduation requirement. Bachelor of Music Degree with options in Performance, Composition, Vocal Education, and Instrumental Education as Bachelor of Music in Composition, Bachelor of Music in Instrumental Education, Bachelor of Music in Vocal Education, Bachelor of Music in Performance - Wind or Percussion Instrument, Organ, Piano, Strings, Voice.
