This master’s degree offers highly experimental design approaches to architecture and urban design and has two pathways to choose from: MA Architecture Speculative Futures and MA Architecture Future Cities.

As part of this course, you’ll:

Applicants should either have at least a second class honours degree in architecture, landscape architecture, urban design, or other design discipline, or in a subject related to their chosen pathway as listed below, or have equivalent experience or training, normally from within the work environment, related to the subject pathway.

Related degrees for each of the pathways may include the following:

  • MA Architecture Speculative Futures - Game Design, or Creative Technology.
  • MA Architecture Future Cities - Town Planning, Geography, Urban Studies, Three-Dimensional Design, Graphic Design, Game Design, Creative Technology, or Visual Arts.


In your personal statement, as well as the reason for your application, your interest and experience in the field and your future ambitions within the subject area, you should articulate the particular pathway you are interested in following and your reasons for selecting that option.

All suitable candidates who meet the entry requirements will be required to submit a portfolio of creative work related to the cognate areas listed above. Your portfolio should include examples from your previous education, professional experience, or personal work. The course is highly experimental and design-oriented. Candidates are expected to possess and be keen to develop strong design and technical skills in relation to their design research methods.
