The BSc (Hons) Midwifery at the Metropolitan College aims to promote quality and factual obstetrical, gynaecological and neonatal care, through an approach which places modern women and their needs at the forefront, while also enhancing the position of Greek Midwives in order to effect a change in professional culture and upgrade it. Furthermore, it aims to train Midwives who meet local and European midwifery standards in registering with the competent professional bodies. Midwifery is an evolving profession whose continuous growth requires a wealth of scientific knowledge and clinical skills. It also requires continuous progress in terms of research, with the contribution of other scientific disciplines as well (medicine, psychology, biomedical sciences, etc.). The changing demands of the profession stemming from changes in the roles and views of modern women, new approaches to health care and advances in technology require the provision of high-quality education for midwives. To this end, the curriculum of the Midwifery Department focuses on women and their empowerment in decision-making.
