The Higher Education EdD in the College of Education and Human Development prepares accomplished higher education professionals for senior leadership positions in colleges and universities. Some students become faculty members in colleges or universities, using their higher education doctorate as a capstone for teaching in other disciplines, especially at the two-year college level, and in applied disciplines. Alumni of this program include provosts, deans and directors in many areas, such as academic and student affairs, business, continuing education, development, and technology. The program is designed to provide both a rich intellectual and theoretical background and applied experiences.

This program provides higher education leaders with key knowledge and skills, including

  • the ability to critically examine, diagnose and address persistent inequity in college access and success;
  • an advanced understanding of the cultural, economic, historical, legal, political and social contexts of higher education administration;
  • the skills necessary to find, review and apply evidence from scholarly and policy research; and
  • a strong grasp of concepts of governance and the financial structures of postsecondary institutions.

Temple’s Higher Education EdD program can be completed on a full- or part-time basis, with evening classes offered to accommodate the schedules of working higher education professionals.
