Epidemiology is the science underpinning public health, clinical research and health care evaluation (a form of health "data science"). Students will engage with the complex population health challenges facing the UK and the global community in future decades, providing high-quality training in epidemiological methods that are applicable to low-, middle- and high-income settings through this programme. The programme is suitable for students from both clinical and non-clinical backgrounds. Covering topics from design and statistical analysis of experimental to observational studies, much of the teaching will relate to the epidemiology of non-communicable diseases. Students will write a dissertation on a selected research topic which will be likely based on large-scale studies of national importance, and will take the form of a journal article, an oral and a poster presentation - opening the possibility of submission for publication.
