This Joint Honours programme combines a full course in music with German, which can be studied from beginners' level. It provides a valuable skill set that is ideally tailored to the increasingly globalised workplace. Alongside learning German language in a structured course, students will study literature, history, thought, politics, linguistics and culture. Students will spend their third year abroad in a German-speaking environment, which will enable them to refine their language skills and cultural knowledge. This joint degree provides a wide range of units that allows students to pursue their own interests in both fields. In the first year students will take 60 credits in each department, and in years two and four students can specialise in one subject (80 credits in one and 40 in the other). In year one music harmony and analysis are compulsory, in addition to which students have a choice of composition, performance or another history unit. Second and fourth years allow even more choice and their third year is spent abroad. Students will have access to the School of Modern Languages' state-of-the-art multimedia centre.
