The master's graduate in mechanical engineering is able to operate in mechanical design, in the planning, control and automation of the production process, in the management of environmental problems and those relating to the use of energy, in the technical-commercial field, in the maintenance of systems and machines, in the activities of measurement and certification laboratories, in the customer support sector for products and services.
Typical sectors of activity are the configuration and programming of systems with a high automation content, the planning and control of production processes and systems, the management of the life cycle of materials, the design and management of equipment and systems that use energy in all its forms.
The typical professional fields for master's graduates in Mechanical Engineering are those of innovation and development of mechanical production, advanced mechanical design, industrial planning and programming, management of complex systems, both in the freelance profession and in manufacturing companies or of services and in public administrations.
The specific training objectives of the study path are focused, in compliance with current regulations, safety and the environment, on the development and application of advanced tools and models for:
- the design and management of energy components and systems;
- the design and verification of components, processes and mechanical systems.
Master's graduates will be able to find employment in mechanical and electromechanical industries, companies and institutions for the production and conversion of energy, plant engineering companies, automation and robotics industries, manufacturing companies in general for production, installation and testing, maintenance and management of machines, production lines and departments, complex mechanical systems.
For some years now, the course of study has activated a series of initiatives aimed at improving teaching support for students and CCS/student interaction:
- almost all the first year courses were video recorded and can be used for free on the University's iTunesU and Engineering Education Area YouTube channels;
- a Facebook page and a Twitter address have been activated to improve communication with students.
- almost all courses are available through Google Classroom, a platform dedicated to teacher/student communication and the sharing of teaching material.

Admission Requirements
For students in possession of a first level qualification or equivalent in other classes, the curricular requirements necessary for access are defined, in the Teaching Regulations of the Master's Degree Course in Mechanical Engineering, in terms of the minimum number of ECTS in the SSD of basis and in the characterizing SSDs, to be possessed upon enrollment in the Master's Degree. According to the provisions of current legislation, the possibility of assigning Additional Training Obligations is excluded.
The knowledge required for access is, in addition to the basic subjects (chemistry, physics, mathematics, computer science) typical of engineering, those characterizing mechanical engineering with particular reference to the basic knowledge of thermodynamics, machines, energy systems, mechanical measurements, applied mechanics, mechanical design, machine construction, mechanical technologies and mechanical systems. It is also desirable that the student has an albeit elementary knowledge of electrical engineering and mechanical controls, of the chemistry of materials and metallurgy, of continuum mechanics (with particular reference to the static and dynamic behavior of structures and fluids), of issues relating to safety, energy and the environment.
The verification of the adequacy of the individual student's personal preparation is also delegated to specific procedures described in detail in the Teaching Regulations of the Master's Degree Course in Mechanical Engineering.
Knowledge of the English language at least at level B2 defined by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages is also required. Possession of this requirement is verified upon enrollment based on the procedures described in the Teaching Regulations of the Master's Degree Course.
Enrollment (in inglese):
Enrollment in the Master's Degree course in Mechanical Engineering is subject to verification of the possession of curricular requirements and the adequacy of personal preparation.
The possession of the curricular requirements is automatically considered verified with the possession of a first level qualification belonging to the class of Degrees in Industrial Engineering. Alternatively, the student must have acquired before enrollment a minimum number of ECTS in the basic scientific disciplinary sectors of the three-year continuity degree and characterizing the master's degree equal to 36 and 45 respectively.
The adequacy of personal preparation is automatically considered verified in the case of a first level qualification obtained in a number of years equal to the number of years envisaged by the type of commitment (full-time, non-full-time).
The adequacy of personal preparation is automatically considered verified:
- in the case of a first level qualification obtained with a final weighted average mark of no less than 27/30.
- in the case of a first level qualification obtained with a final weighted average mark greater than 25/30 in a number of years not exceeding double the number of years foreseen by the type of commitment (full-time, non-full-time).
