The programme has been designed as a contemporary sustainable architectural course with an innovative blend of established scientific theories and design principles in relation to the healthy buildings and environments, aiming to raise awareness and practicing principles. Students will build on their knowledge and skills, consider the environmental impact of design decisions and research how to undertake holistic sustainable design analysis integrated within the building information modelling environment. Students will critically analyse current sustainable architecture and low energy design principles and technologies, government legislation, codes for sustainable design and other professional, industrial and commerce drivers. Students also research issues that could adversely affect the health of the building users, in a people centred, proactive and preventive way. Sustainability is not just about the environment so students will research its relationship with aspects of a broader contextual framework, such as socio-cultural, economic, good governance and advancements in the scientific and technological research. This course is professionally recognised by the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists. The programme has been written in collaboration with industry and underpinned by staff research
