This course gives students a broad appreciation of the art, craft and processes of writing, drawing on the work of influential writers. Students will also study key themes in contemporary writing - representation, narratives and responsibility - which deepen their knowledge of writing, both critically and creatively. This course will be taught in small supportive groups, using examples from contemporary and historical writing to inform students' work. Through supervised workshops, seminars and tutorials, students will develop their skills, creativity and confidence. Derby's partnership with leading overseas publishing house ROMAN Books gives students the chance to have their work published for sale in the UK and USA. The collaboration aims to help new writers develop their work commercially, including advice on marketing, promotion and rights.
