The Departments of Animal Science and Veterinary Science offer programs leading to the M.S. (Plan A and Plan B) and Ph.D. degrees in animal and veterinary science. A M.S. degree in food science and human nutrition is offered in cooperation with the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences. The Department of Animal Science also participates in the interdisciplinary M.S./Ph.D. Reproductive Biology Program which has morphed into Biomedical Science Program. Food science is the application of basic sciences to the processing, quality control, storage, distribution and consumer use of food products. The microbiological, chemical and physical characteristics of foods as related to food processing and product quality are studied. Major emphasis is placed in the area of animal food products.
