Students on the master's degree in Communication and Organization are trained to become communication professionals. Such professionals help organizations to prevent reputational damage during a crisis, for example. Together with organizations, they think about optimizing communication between management and employees, so that employees are informed and remain motivated. They try with organizations to make communication with existing customers more relevant and user-friendly. Or they examine how organizations can attract new customers with convincing communication.
LEARNING TO THINK FROM THE ORGANIZATIONAL PERSPECTIVE IN A YEAR AND A HALF In the master's program Communication and Organization we take one and a half years to teach you how to analyse, evaluate and improve communication in organisations. We focus on communication processes (such as oral and digital interactions) and communication products (such as texts and websites). We do this not only through courses and an academic thesis. Unique to this program is the practical trajectory: an extra six months that consists of an internship and practical research in an organization.
The communication profession has professionalized in recent decades. It is no longer enough for a communication specialist to just have a sense of language, a talent for convincing presentations or a large network. In order to provide communication advice, you must first be able to analyze communication. But you also have to look further. You have to take into account the identity and structure of the organization; and often also with legal guidelines and house style regulations. That is why the training also includes an organizational course on management communication.
