Do you enjoy working with texts and playing with language? Or to create a completely new, independent text based on an existing text, to lend your voice to someone else? Then you are exactly at the right place with the Master's in Literary Translation.
As a literary translator you write someone else's voice. You create a new text based on an already existing text. You want that text to pass for the previous text, be or appear the same, but you can only do that by changing everything about it. This is the complicated paradoxical task the translator faces.
To successfully perform that task, you need a wide range of knowledge and skills. This range varies from knowledge of the language and literature of both source and target culture to knowledge of methods and tricks that translators can use to solve translation problems and the ability to interpret texts adequately. You also need to know how literary texts are put together and how to put them together and have a feeling for stylistic effects in a text.
LEARN TO REALLY TRANSLATE IN A YEAR AND A HALF
In the program we allocate a year and a half to teach you all this. You can follow the program for the source languages German, English, French, Italian and Spanish. The practical translation lectures are always aimed at translating into Dutch .
