SUMMA is a four-year master's degree that trains you to become a doctor and clinical researcher. In addition to medical theory and practice, education therefore also offers a solid research component. After the master, you will be a medical doctor and clinical researcher and ideally suited to combine patient care and scientific research.

During the first three years you will become familiar with the way in which doctors collect and process information and subsequently arrive at a diagnosis, treatment plan, advice and prognosis. What is special about the training is that you come into contact with practice right from the start. You learn from real patients and their stories. In the fourth year, you take on a more responsible and independent role in the semi-arts internship.

For your scientific education it is not only important that you follow new developments in medicine and that you can quickly assess their value, but also that you can contribute to them yourself. You will learn to translate the questions that play a role in daily healthcare into both clinical and fundamental scientific research and to fit them into healthcare. You form the link between clinical practice and theory.

As a SUMMA student you are registered at Utrecht University, but you follow the training at UMC Utrecht. Collaboration is central throughout the master's programme. Each student takes knowledge from their own previous education that provides added value within your group.
