CROSS-BORDER ISSUES
Today's society in no way resembles the society of the past: the mobility of the Dutch population is increasing, technical development continues, the influence of the Internet is becoming more extensive and international trade is becoming increasingly intensive. Blended families are no longer a new phenomenon, contracts are becoming more complex and possible liable parties are more likely to come under fire. All this in a globalizing world in which national borders seem to disappear.
This kind of social change and the internationalization of law entails many difficulties and requires the student of today and the lawyer of tomorrow to be able to switch quickly between different norms and legal systems. Current rules need to be critically studied and interpreted in light of these developments. Reporting on this takes place through various presentation and writing assignments, such as essays, blogs and papers.
BROAD PRIVATE LAW BASIS, RESEARCH-DRIVEN EDUCATION AND IN-DEPTH STUDY OF YOUR CHOICE
Within the Private Law program you will be prepared as well as possible to deal with the changing content of private law and current social developments. The broad private law basis is laid with the compulsory major courses in private international law and the civil process. During private international law you will learn which court and which legal system applies in cross-border cases. In the course Civil Process you will learn how the theory of procedural law is relevant to practice. Knowledge of these areas is indispensable in civil law practice.
You will then be trained in your own specialization to delve into a current specialist subject in a short time.
