Criminal Profiling (CP) is a psychological technique in which, from the analysis of the behavior that the offender presents during his crime, he tries to identify characteristics that describe him to help police investigators in his arrest. It is assumed that the behavior that the criminal performs reflects in some way what he is like and what physical, psycho(path)logical or social characteristics he is most likely to display. From that profile, investigators can search for or prioritize suspects that fit these characteristics. The CP has a clear birthplace, the FBI, specifically its Behavioral Sciences Unit (BSU), a unit that was born precisely with the intention of developing the CP to support certain criminal investigations in relation to complex cases.
