In recent years, we have observed in Guatemala an increase in the planning and execution of buildings designed in steel as a structural material. Steel is a highly resistant material and its use is increasing worldwide.
Structures of this type allow maximizing the profitable area in buildings by having smaller dimensions compared to traditional concrete systems. Similarly, the systematization in the production of metal structures allows it to be carried out simultaneously with other construction processes such as excavations, protection of slopes, among others, shortening the deadlines in the planning and execution stage.
The postgraduate program develops the necessary skills to face these challenges using up-to-date computer programs compatible with the BIM methodology. It responds to the demand for engineers capable of developing earthquake-resistant structural projects and knowledgeable about the structural planning of steel buildings.
