The undergraduate program in Literature offers a solid, flexible, and interdisciplinary humanistic education that integrates the critical study of literature with creative practice. Students are trained in the analysis of literary theories, languages, contexts, and traditions, as well as in the practice of writing in diverse genres. The program allows students to build personalized pathways that combine research, creative writing, editing, translation, and intermedia projects, thus developing critical reading skills that enrich their creative practice and advanced writing informed by a deep understanding of tradition. Graduates acquire complex analytical skills, comparative thinking abilities, and creative skills that prepare them to work in fields such as creative writing, the cultural and creative industries, research, teaching, publishing, and the digital humanities.

The undergraduate program in Literature at the University of the Andes is an eight-semester, full-time, in-person program that awards the degree of Literato/a/e (Literary Specialist). It is accredited for high quality and is characterized by its humanistic rigor, curricular flexibility, and orientation towards research, critical interpretation, creation, and interdisciplinary work.

The program focuses on a solid foundation in literary studies, articulated through:

  • Four training axes: Theory and problems, Interpretation and criticism, Contexts and reception, and Media and expression, which allow approaching literature from conceptual, historical, critical and intermedial perspectives.
  • Five areas of emphasis: Literary Theory, Linguistics, Classical Languages, Hispanic Literature and Non-Hispanic Literature; these structure the contents and ensure a broad and comparative education.
  • Three training cycles: Basic, intermediate and advanced, which guide the student's progress from theoretical foundations to the development of research or creative projects.

The curriculum stands out for its high electiveness, the use of contemporary methodologies (such as flipped classroom and collaborative learning) and the possibility of integrating specialized seminars, creative workshops, translation, cultural management, among others.

The program fosters critical, investigative, and expressive skills, supported by a highly qualified faculty and diverse lines of research. The degree options—research, creative, assistantship, professional practice, or master's degree courses—allow students to tailor their academic path according to their interests.
