In the PhD program in Literature, we understand literary research as a living field in constant dialogue with the world. Therefore, we train researchers capable of producing original knowledge, integrating theory, cultural criticism, philosophy, history, and the arts. Here, literature is not just text: it is a dynamic phenomenon studied with rigor, creativity, and an interdisciplinary perspective, in order to respond to contemporary challenges and project academic and cultural impact.

The PhD program in Literature at the University of the Andes is a high-quality program designed to train researchers capable of producing original knowledge through independent theoretical thinking and a robust interdisciplinary approach. The program integrates the rigorous analysis of literary texts with the study of their cultural and historical contexts, both local and global, and connects them to disciplines such as criticism, philosophy, and history, as well as to other arts, including theater and film, from antiquity to the present day. Its curriculum draws on diverse conceptual frameworks, incorporates paradigms of cultural production and circulation, and employs methodologies from the social sciences and humanities to analyze literature in dialogue with its contexts and to develop critical and original interpretations of the literary phenomenon.

The program is based on a strong orientation towards high-quality research, supported by intellectual rigor and the active participation of students in the research groups of the Department of Literature, as well as in seminars, conferences and spaces for academic validation, including publications in specialized scientific journals.
