It requires full-time dedication from the student, with in-person attendance for at least two years of study. The curriculum includes four semesters of coursework through in-person instruction and four semesters dedicated exclusively to the development of the doctoral dissertation. One of these research semesters is conducted during an academic visit to a prestigious international institution.

Due to the curriculum structure, admissions are held once a year. The academic year begins in August of each year. A limited number of students are admitted to the doctoral program each year because the program's structure emphasizes academic excellence, intellectual ability, and motivation.

The Doctoral Program in Economics trains researchers and professors of the highest caliber in economic sciences. The commitment of the Faculty and its professors to topics of paramount importance to the economies of the country and the region, and the rigorous training of its faculty, enables doctoral students to develop the scientific and teaching skills necessary to lead research processes on economic realities and on the theoretical and methodological developments of the discipline; to contribute to economic policy decisions in the country and the region; and, in turn, to contribute as professors in higher education programs in the various areas of economic knowledge.
