The undergraduate program in Art History trains specialists capable of interpreting art from historical, social, and global perspectives. With an interdisciplinary approach and direct experience with works in Colombia and around the world, it prepares critical professionals for curating, research, education, and cultural management.
We are the first undergraduate program in Art History in Colombia and one of the most renowned programs in Latin America. Our program is dynamic, flexible, and connected to many disciplines: artistic creation, the humanities, the sciences, and the social sciences. From the first semester, students learn to analyze works of art by asking questions such as: What exactly are we seeing? Where do the works come from? How were they made? What are or were their functions, and why do they still matter today? Alongside this, students develop research, communication, and critical thinking skills that are fundamental to the contemporary job market.
Throughout the program, students explore the history of art from prehistory to the present, from a global and transnational perspective, always with an emphasis on Latin America. They also work with archives and local and regional heritage, understanding art from the place where it is produced and circulated. Direct experience is key for us: contact with works of art in museums, archives, and collections is a fundamental part of our teaching approach. For this reason, we travel and go beyond the classroom constantly.
