Information Security is a modern and strategically important field that focuses on ensuring the security of data, information systems, and networks in the digital environment. This specialization is offered by the Faculty of Mechanics and Information Technologies at Azerbaijan University of Architecture and Construction and provides students with fundamental theoretical knowledge and practical skills in cybersecurity.

In today’s world, information security is a priority for government institutions, banks, international companies, startups, and even individual users. With the rapid pace of digitalization, the number and complexity of cyber threats are increasing. Therefore, the demand for qualified information security specialists is high in both local and international labor markets.

Within this specialization, students gain knowledge and skills in the following areas:

  • Design and management of computer networks

  • Operating system security

  • Fundamentals of cryptography

  • Operating systems

  • Authentication and security models

  • Risk and incident management

  • Cryptographic methods of information protection

The curriculum is designed to develop both theoretical knowledge and practical skills. Students work with real network equipment and simulation environments in laboratory classes, learning how to detect security vulnerabilities and eliminate them. Through various projects, students also work on real-life scenarios, developing teamwork, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

The program also includes foundational subjects such as information technology fundamentals, programming languages (e.g., Python and C/C++), database systems, operating systems, mathematical analysis, discrete mathematics, and probability theory. These subjects form a strong scientific foundation for specialization in cybersecurity.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, programming plays an important role in information security. During their studies, students learn the basics of Python and C/C++ and gain practical skills in security analysis, automation, and scripting. However, prior advanced programming knowledge is not mandatory - foundational knowledge is developed at the university.
Graduates can work in the banking sector, government institutions, private companies, IT and cybersecurity firms as information security specialists, system and network administrators, SOC analysts, penetration testing specialists, or risk management specialists.
Yes, laboratory lessons and practical assignments are an essential part of the program. Students learn to detect vulnerabilities, build defense mechanisms, and analyze cyber incidents in real and simulated network environments.
Students can apply through the Orhun Exchange Program and bilateral exchange programs.
Mathematics - especially discrete mathematics, logic, and probability theory — forms the foundation of information security. A strong mathematical background is important for understanding cryptography and security algorithms.
