It is the canonical title of Bachelor of Theology granted by the Holy See that the Spanish State recognizes as a Degree in Theology. The program, which has the approval of the Department for Culture and Education, is developed in accordance with the fundamental ecclesial documents for theological formation in Ecclesiastical Faculties: the Apostolic Constitution Veritatis gaudium and the recent Instruction for the application of the modality of distance learning in Universities/Ecclesiastical Faculties (2021). The Bachelor's studies in theology at a distance (Baccalaureatus in Theologia - Philosophical-Theological Quinquenio), responding to the criteria of the Pope and the Department for Culture and Education, are addressed to laymen and women, but also to religious men and women, consecrated, etc., involved in pastoral tasks in their respective parishes, dioceses, Catholic schools, Church NGOs, etc. In addition to pastoral workers, these studies are specially designed for members of monasteries of contemplative life and those who are located, in the expression of Pope Francis, in the "human peripheries". The subjects are distributed throughout five courseswith a format and methodology created specifically for distance learning, combining distance teaching with direct, telematic or physical contact with the student. The greater or lesser proportion of physical face-to-face teaching, following the ecclesial documents and the plan approved by the Dicastery, depends on the type of student and their specific conditions. Within each course, each topic offers reading and study materials, along with exercises specifically designed for self-study.
At the end, and after taking an examination before a court on the whole of theology, the canonical title of Bachelor of Theology granted by the Holy See is obtained. This qualification is the one that the Spanish State recognizes as the Degree in Theology, being therefore an official university degree valid throughout the European Higher Space.
