Metallurgy being one of the strategic areas of the country's development, since its creation the Program has been sponsored by institutions such as UNESCO and the Government of Japan through various programs to strengthen its teaching staff and infrastructure.
The Program has been accredited in the Graduate Program since 1993.
The teaching staff is made up of a basic nucleus of 17 professors, all members of the CONACyT National System of Researchers who publish in indexed journals (JCR) at a rate of 3 articles/professor/year.
On average, 30 applications are received per year and 17 students are accepted ; 61 students are currently enrolled.
