Miami University’s Primary Education PK-5 program is driven by the Teacher Education Department's mission to prepare future and current teachers who design and implement culturally and contextually relevant curriculum and pedagogy. Empowered by a critical and substantive understanding of research, these teachers are positioned to confront social injustices, apply global perspectives, and actively participate in a democratic society. In addition to licensure for teaching pre-kindergarten through grade 5, graduates of this program may work in a variety of settings involving young people, such as non-profit social service agencies, children’s hospitals, court services for youth, museums, recreational programs, and child care settings. Additionally, students who obtain additional education may choose to pursue roles in educational administration.
