The Occupational Therapy Doctorate (OTD) is designed for licensed occupational therapists with a master’s degree who wish to advance their clinical expertise, skills, and potential for leadership.

The degree is 33 credits, and can be completed part time in as few as six consecutive semesters. Coursework includes advanced intervention and assessment courses, and in-depth educational experiences in the systems, funding and mechanisms in health care delivery from an occupational therapy perspective. A two-course individualized capstone research project, supported by Inter-Professional Education courses, allows students to gain knowledge and the ability to translate evidence for clinical practice relative to their area of expertise. Students are encouraged to use coursework toward an AOTA Board & Specialty Certification application.

  • No GRE scores are required.
  • A master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university with an overall GPA of 3.25 in graduate course work. Students are eligible to request conditional admission with an overall GPA of 3.00.
  • A degree or certificate in occupational therapy from a professional occupational therapy program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education or by the World Federation of Occupational Therapists, and proof of NBCOT certification.
  • Licensure to practice occupational therapy, in good standing
  • Interview at the request of the department
