Towson University is committed to the creative development of visual artists, art educators and historians. This 33-unit master’s program provides advanced training in art education, promotes professional growth through individual research, and increases your skills and knowledge in art production, art history, aesthetics and art criticism.


Required courses are taken in a specified sequence culminating in a written master’s project similar in scope to a traditional thesis. Faculty members work closely with you to prepare a final portfolio of your work.

  • An undergraduate degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • A minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.00 (on a 4-point scale) is required for full admission to the program, and 2.75 is required for conditional admission. GPA calculations may be based upon the cumulative units or the last 60 units of the degree. See graduate admission policies for more information.
