Energy systems research can inform and help shape tomorrow's difficult energy decisions in decarbonising society.

The MScR Energy Systems programme enables you to complete a research degree as part of the Institute for Energy Systems (IES), a multidisciplinary research institute delivering world-leading research in low-carbon energy systems, technology and policy.

Institute for Energy Systems

The Institute includes academic staff members with expertise in a variety of areas, including:

  • resource modelling and measurement
  • hydrodynamics
  • aerodynamics
  • computational fluid dynamics
  • thermodynamics
  • electromagnetics
  • power electronics
  • control
  • power systems analysis
  • life-cycle analysis

As a Masters by Research (MScR) student, you will spend the duration of this programme working on a research project. An MScR programme allows you to gain specialist knowledge in your research area, and is sometimes taken as a precursor to a PhD.
