On our ancient history degree, you will study the history of ancient Greece and Rome and will be welcome to expand your studies to the later Roman/late antique and Byzantine periods, if you so desire.


You will also be able to study other ancient civilisations that came into contact with the Greeks and Romans, such as:


  • the Neo-Hittite states
  • the Etruscans
  • the Persians
  • Egypt
  • the Carthaginians
  • Judaea


The programme will enable you to contextualise Graeco-Roman history within its wider Mediterranean context. This includes:


  • religious history
  • social history
  • economic history
  • political history
  • cultural history


You will work with sources ranging from great historiographers such as Herodotus, Thucydides and Tacitus to inscriptions and papyri, and the findings of archaeological excavation.
