This course provides a solid grounding in all aspects of physics, both theoretical and experimental. However a substantial amount of laboratory work is replaced by lecture courses and project work in philosophy. Typical course units forming the Philosophy stream include: Moral Philosophy; Theory of Knowledge; Philosophy of Science and Ethics. The works of Spinoza, Wittgenstein and Aristotle might also be studied. You undertake a major project in an area of physics and philosophy in your fourth year as well as choosing from a diverse range of philosophy and physics fourth year course units. It is possible to transfer to the 3-year BSc course at the beginning of your third year. Graduates in Physics with Philosophy will be well suited to employment in many areas, from academic research to work in industry. The abilities to identify, analyse and solve problems and to present a solution clearly and concisely are valuable skills in the workplace and provide a good intellectual basis for vocational training.
