Concentrations for this major are middle school and secondary school. Elementary education majors may choose mathematics as their area of concentration. Elementary education majors may also earn additional licensure to teach mathematics in junior high/middle school. Our secondary education concentration will allow you to teach mathematics at the middle school and high school levels. You will take a variety of mathematics and mathematics education courses. You will also take general education courses in Teachers College, and you will gain experience by observing and teaching in middle school and high school classrooms. With this concentration you are getting the best of both worlds because you will take higher level mathematics courses, comparable to those required for a bachelor’s degree in mathematical science.
