Master in Arts in School Psychology

The MA in school psychology program is structured to educate you in accordance with Indiana school psychology licensure requirements and National Association of School Psychologists standards. Through the program, you will develop competencies in assessment, consultation, intervention, and prevention through course work, clinic- and field-based practical, and an internship. The course sequence also includes the study of human development, individual differences, learning, curriculum, research methods, and statistics. Practicum and internship experiences focus on both regular and special education classrooms and developing working partnerships with teachers and parents. The program also acknowledges the diverging needs of the profession and seeks to provide students with the foundation skills needed to consider a range of career options. A master's degree in school psychology does not prepare you for certification as a school psychologist in Indiana. To be eligible to obtain a school psychologist license in the state of Indiana, you must complete a master's, specialist, or doctoral degree in school psychology with a minimum of 60 semester hours from an institution regionally accredited to offer such a degree. In order to be eligible for licensure through Ball State University, you must complete all course requirements (73 semester hours). Because of the number of hours required, most students elect to obtain either an educational specialist (EdS) or doctoral (PhD) degree. Degree requirements Requirements include the satisfactory completion of a minimum of 30 hours of prescribed graduate courses with an overall grade-point average (GPA) of at least 3.0 and a GPA of 3.0 in courses in the major. Students seeking Indiana school psychologist licensure are required to complete at a minimum the program as outlined under the section, Requirements for School Services Licenses, including an academic-year internship. Check with the program director for any recent changes dictated by professional organizations or licensure requirements. All course work must be approved by the program director.
