The difference is you will be required to write a 6-hour thesis, which is normally a formal report on your research in some feature of experimental physics, theoretical physics, or physics education. The Master of Science degree has a more involved research component, which is more appropriate if you are intending to go to a PhD program or a research intensive career. You must also meet admission requirements of the Graduate School and take the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) or an equivalent exam.
