The Ball State Sport Administration program prides itself on readying students for success in the sport industry not only through critical learning experiences as part of the curriculum, but also through networking and professional development. Program highlights and points of distinction are listed below: The Ball State Sport Administration curriculum is almost completely experiential. Students learn by doing and graduate with experience. For example, in SPTA 290 Revenue Generation, students sell tickets for a sport organization (Ball State University and Ft. Wayne TinCaps). Our event management classes raise $7,000 per year on average to support professional development for students in the form of scholarships from the Sport Administration Fund for Excellence. The fund sent two students to Colorado Springs for the United States Olympic Committee Internship fair as well as countless others to networking conferences in Chicago, Washington D. C., Indianapolis, and Ohio. Our relationship with Ball State Athletics allows students an opportunity to gain experience in operations and on-field promotions as early as in the introductory course. Ball State Athletics pays our co-curricular club, the Sport Administration Association, for our volunteer efforts and as a result, our co-curricular club has money ($7,000 per year average) to take major-wide networking trips, run events, and pay sport industry speakers to network with students on campus. The Sport Administration program incorporates alumni into the advising process as alumni mentors. Students benefit by exploring careers with alumni working in the field and graduating with a network of contacts for potential employment. Students have the benefit of completing their required internship at a sport organization anywhere in the United States and abroad.
