Earning a bachelor’s degree in legal studies at Ball State prepares you for a career as a paralegal in the government sector or the private sector. Under this program, approved by the American Bar Association, you have two options: the business option or the public law option. We also can help prepare you for law school. The pre-law designation allows you to meet with an advisor who will help you enroll in courses that will be helpful in law school. Many of our legal studies classes offer the courses needed to prepare for law school. The business law option is a good choice if you have an interest in business organizations, insurance, finance and accounting, or if you are interested in managing a law office. The course offerings give you an excellent overview of the role of the law in everyday business transactions. Career Opportunities with This Major The paralegal field is a growing profession. After graduating with a legal studies degree, you will be prepared for a career with a law office, prosecutor’s office, insurance company, courts, or an administrative agency at any level of government. With a degree in legal studies, you can work in a variety of different fields of law such as civil, criminal, family, real estate, bankruptcy, environmental, immigration, trademark, employment, and labor.
