The doctor of philosophy (PhD) degree in human bioenergetics is designed to prepare students for research careers in exercise physiology. The doctoral degree will require approximately three years to complete and will give students the competencies necessary to deal with biochemical and physiological problems in exercise physiology. It is conducted in cooperation with the Department of Biology. Degree requirements Students must complete a minimum of 90 hours of graduate work including the dissertation and master’s degree hours. In addition to the core requirement, one 24-hour cognate or two 15-hour cognates in such related fields as biology, physiology, and chemistry are required. Students must complete the dissertation (DISS 799) for 10-24 hours on research problems that will contribute new knowledge to the field. Candidates will take final oral examinations given by their PhD committees when the dissertation is completed.
