The Master of Science (Audiology) programme was designed using the University of Melbourne’s Master of Clinical Audiology curriculum as a model and has a combination of academic, clinical and research rigour. In addition, the programme has a distinct Asian focus – taking into consideration local specifics like pathologies, genetics, regional infections, cultures, language-dependent sound and hearing instrument differences, healthcare delivery systems, costing, policies and translational research focuses. It further distinguishes itself from other programmes by incorporating a multidisciplinary approach with related topics including psychology, ethics, public health and engineering.
Students will have the unique opportunity to be part of a small cohort with a dedicated faculty and state-of-the-art facilities, ensuring that they will be well-supported during the two years. They will also be exposed to working with professionals from multiple related disciplines and will be involved early on in the program in public education, awareness and events on hearing health with emphasis placed on a spirit of service, community involvement and consideration for public health policies.
With the growing global population, there is a worldwide shortage of audiologists. Audiologists are increasingly in demand as people are now living longer owing to better healthcare and medical advances. At the same time, detection of hearing impairment through newborn hearing screening and a trend of early hearing deterioration due to noisy lifestyles also needs to be addressed. Admission Requirements
- Hold a good bachelor’s degree from a recognized university in allied health, science, life sciences or engineering, or in exceptional circumstances, such other qualifications and experience that meet the approval of the Board of Graduate Studies. *
- Pass a placement test (interview and/or written test) set by the core programme staff.
- Provide evidence of a minimum International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 7 or a TOEFL score of 600 to establish proficiency in English if this is not their first language.
- All IELTS/TOEFL tests must have been taken no earlier than 2 years before the proposed date of admission.
- Pass any preparatory modules as indicated by the core programme staff on a case-by-case basis.
