The Master of Science (MSc) (Mechanical Engineering) programme provides students with an advanced knowledge and understanding of the state of the art in mechanical engineering. The unique balance of rigorous fundamentals and engaging real-world applications in the MSc (Mechanical Engineering) programme train students to be analytical thinkers who will successfully integrate and synthesize theory and new knowledge. The combination of expertise in research and in engineering consultancy in the Department of Mechanical Engineering gives the MSc (Mechanical Engineering) programme its unique features. The success of the MSc (Mechanical Engineering) programme can be measured by the large proportion of graduates who find appropriate and challenging roles in the industry at home and abroad.

The main features that distinguish our programme in Mechanical Engineering are:

  • New industry-relevant courses have been introduced - in the areas of Applied Mechanics, Fluid Mechanics, Control & Mechatronics, Materials, and Manufacturing.
  • Students will have the opportunity to undertake an optional local industrial internship via the course [ME5888M Mechanical Engineering Internship]. This enables students to learn from both the university and industry to enhance employability.
  • Opportunity to work on industry projects as part of the ME5001 course, allowing students to work on real-world engineering problems.
  • Student is allowed to take a maximum of 8 Units on industrial attachment and/or project course, i.e. he/she may choose ME5001 (8 Units), or ME5001A (4 Units), or ME5888M Internship (4 Units), or ME5001A plus ME5888M (total 8 Units).
  • Part-time lecturers with rich industrial experience engaged to teach courses in order to expose students to the concepts and practices for future generation of mechanical engineering.
  • Several new courses are introduced to the programme and several others are revamped to enhance students’ learning experiences and to include up-to-date topics relevant to the current industry.

Admission to the MSc (Mechanical Engineering) programme is highly competitive and exclusive to ensure high quality course content and delivery, resulting in highly trained, future ready graduates for engineering industries.
