To prepare students for a global workplace that requires engineers to work efficiently in multicultural teams, the Department of Mechanical Engineering offers an applied research Master of Science program focused on Global Manufacturing in collaboration with the Rheinisch-Westfaelische Technische Hochschule (RWTH) and its associated Laboratory for Machine Tools and Production Technology (WZL), Fraunhofer USA Center for Manufacturing Innovation (CMI), and Fraunhofer Institute for Production Technology (IPT), Aachen, Germany. The degree in Global Manufacturing requires 24 months of full-time coursework and research at Boston University and RWTH in Aachen, Germany. Students must register for a total of 32 credits to meet the requirements of the MS program in Manufacturing Engineering and includes 8 credits of master’s thesis. The international experience of students completing this program will allow applicants, originating in Germany or in the United States, to conduct research respectively for European Industry at the Fraunhofer IPT or WZL in Germany and for US Industry at the Fraunhofer CMI in Boston.

Admission Requirements

Applicants hold a four-year Bachelor’s degree from an accredited US institution or its international equivalent.  If you have earned a three-year degree that is the equivalent of a four-year degree in the US, it will be accepted in the admissions process.  Other English Language Requirements: TOEFL Paper Based score of at least 600.
