TheDepartment
of Crop Physiology and Ecology (CPE) was established since the starting with
the university (2001) with a view to providing fundamental and advanced courses
on plant morphology, anatomy, physiology and ecology to several undergraduate
degree programs e.g., ‘Agriculture’and ‘Food Process Engineering’ etc. The Department
consists of 8 faculty members of them five are Professors, one Associate
Professor, one Assistant Professor and one Lecturer who are shouldering the
academic programs as well as research activities of the department.Faculty
research areas include plant stress physiology, microclimate manipulations,
plant-microbe interaction, plant cell signaling, organic agriculture and solid
waste management. Besides the undergraduate degree programs, the department
offers both master’s and PhD degree under the faculty of postgraduate studies. The
department provides an excellent research environment for post-graduate
students with several research opportunities in cutting-edge fields of crop
science. The CPE department is working to build stepping stone towards a
brighter future for the students of both undergraduate and postgraduate
faculties. The department is committed to create and maintain an inclusive,
equitable, and diverse environment for national and international students.

Selecting the right scholarship can be a daunting process. With countless options available, students often find themselves overwhelmed and confused. The decision can be especially stressful for those facing financial constraints or pursuing specific academic or career goals.
To help students navigate this challenging process, we recommend the following articles:
The independence of scientific research is an important principle for the Department. Two moderately equipped laboratory with enough experimental facilities are available here.In collaboration with the central lab of the university, the department provides some of the advanced research facilities in the field of plant stress physiology, eco-physiology, nutritional plant physiology, population genetics and phytogeography, plant-environment interactions, molecular biology and tissue culture, waste management, composting and organic and eco-friendly agriculture. Now the department works more often with government agencies, NGOs and other institutions in home and abroadthan in the past, it is even more important to guarantee the research independence. The department has a number of regulations and procedures to guarantee the independence of scientific research.
Funds from different organizations such as Ministry of Science and Technology, University Grants Commission, Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council, Mini
The department of Crop Physiology and Ecology is dedicated to provide outcome based higher education to the students and to produce more creative, and field-oriented graduates in the field of cropmorphology, embryology, physiology (stress responses-water, heat, salinity, biotic), ecology (microclimate management), agricultural waste management and others in order to face the upcoming challenges in global climate change, food security and nutrition. The Department does not discriminate based on gender, age, sexual orientation, mental or physical disability, culture, marital status, or religion. Not limited to skills, the department also boost students’ confidence by allowing them to contribute towards research in the international working environment of relevant fields.
Crop Physiology and Ecology is the most flourished branch of biological sciences. Graduates with experience and technical skills in CPE can work in Agriculture, Research Institute and several other government sectors. Moreover, there are countless opportunities of higher studies in the field of advanced physiology and ecology to be taken by our graduates in home and abroad.
MS is a one and half year degree based on course and research works. The students after completing their theory courses submit a thesis based on their research works. The research is carried out by the students under the supervision of a member of the academic staff of the department. Based on the nature of work a co-supervisor may be selected for the students either from the departmental academic staff or from a teacher/researcher from other department of the university or any other university or research organization in the country. Before submitting the thesis, the students present their thesis work before a panel of teachers mainly the teachers of the respective examination committee, supervisors and the postgraduate students.
Fortunately, there is no age limitation to join as an MS or PhD fellow at CPE.
