Fish is the second largest animal protein supplier in Bangladesh and over millions of people are engaged in fishing activities as a means of their livelihoods. Over hundreds of fish processing plants are in operation earning foreign currencies by exporting fish and fisheries products. Fish is a very perishable food commodity and its quality deteriorated after harvesting. So proper harvesting, handling, transportation, and processing of fish are crucial in maintaining quality of fish. At the undergraduate level this department under the Faculty of Fisheries offer theoretical and practical course on the post-harvest technology of fish covering fishing technology, fish processing and preservation, fisheries microbiology, quality control of fishery products, fisheries product and byproduct technology, and fisheries resources utilisation. This department conducts research activities on various aspect of post-harvest technology of fish and offer Postgraduate degree (M.S. in Fisheries Technology) as well.
