This Tourism and Events degree focuses on sustainability and students will explore many facets of the tourism industry including policy issues relating to tourism and events, and the planning and management of sustainably coordinated events and festivals. The core units of this degree include ‘Destination Management’ and ‘Sustainable Tourism’, and students can choose electives such as ‘Nature-Based Tourism’ and ‘Indigenous Tourism Issues’ and ‘Festivals and Events.’ As part of the studies students will take field trips to tourism destinations, and learn to think critically and creatively, apply knowledge and information, and communicate effectively. This degree can be combined with another major and the recommended double majors include Public Relations, Australian Indigenous Studies, Sociology, Sustainable Development, Community Development, Japanese or Indonesian.
