In line with the continuous advancements in 21st-century civil engineering, teaching in various fields has seen significant development in areas such as bridge vibration, pile foundation measurement, foundation improvement, pavement materials, cement microstructure, wind tunnel testing, transportation, and construction management. The curriculum includes academic and professional theoretical courses related to civil engineering. To emphasize both theory and practice, courses in structural mechanics, rock and soil mechanics, asphalt materials, cement physicochemical analysis, fluid dynamics, traffic control, and surveying practice are also offered. Since the opening of the large-scale mechanics laboratory in June 1984, the Department of Civil Engineering has been able to provide larger and more precise experimental equipment to meet the needs of teaching and research.
To achieve the integration of technology and make education relevant to daily life, and to improve teaching efficiency and results, engineering visits are organized every semester. Students have been led to visit the construction of prestressed box girder bridges, the construction method of balanced cantilever bridges, the construction method of bridge segmental advancement, the construction method of advanced bridge support, the construction of tunnels using the New Austrian Tunneling Method, the shield tunneling method for MRT underground tunnels, the construction of the Second Northern Freeway, and the main construction of Banqiao Railway Station, etc. These engineering visits combine the application of theory and practice.
