National Central University is a top university in Taiwan with abundant learning resources. In addition, it has established the Taiwan United University System with National Chiao Tung University, National Tsing Hua University, and National Chengchi University. By combining the teaching and research capabilities of the four universities, integrating resources, and leveraging their complementarity, it provides students with higher quality and more diverse learning options.

The Department of Hakka Language and Social Sciences ( hereinafter referred to as the Department ) was established in August 2013. It includes undergraduate, master's and doctoral programs. From basic training in Hakka language, culture and social sciences to cultivating professional Hakka research skills, it has established a complete Hakka talent training system in higher education institutions and actively promotes the "five-year double degree system" (bachelor and master's degree) to shorten the students' study period in order to enter the workplace or continue their studies earlier.

"Hakka Heart, New Hakka" is the main theme of this department's development. It emphasizes caring for Hakka affairs with "heart" and presenting a new face of Hakka culture with an innovative vision. It aims to create a "New Hakka" with "Hakka heart" and cultivate the energy for the sustainable development of Hakka culture.

Our department boasts faculty in academic fields such as language, literature, sociology, culture, politics, economics, policy, and law, offering a variety of interdisciplinary courses and providing teaching and research that combines theory and practice. Furthermore, we emphasize connections with overseas Hakka communities and international Hakka studies and humanities and social sciences research communities. Through various research projects, academic conferences, and scholarships for Hakka entrepreneurs, we increase international interaction and exchange, enhancing students' ability to grasp current events and broadening their international perspectives.

The department's teaching and research activities are primarily conducted in the Hakka College building on campus. Located on the shores of the lake, the building boasts a tranquil environment and is equipped with comprehensive teaching facilities and a unique library collection, providing students with a high-quality, comfortable, and enjoyable learning space.
