Department of Economics has two main educational goals: first, to cultivate outstanding professionals in economics teaching and research; and second, to enhance the international perspective and publication capabilities of doctoral students.

As a research university, we place particular emphasis on doctoral student development. Economics professionals typically pursue two career paths: teaching and research, both requiring independent research abilities. Our department offers rigorous economic theory courses, coupled with training in quantitative methods and empirical techniques, supplemented by a comprehensive development plan and stringent graduation requirements. This ensures that doctoral students possess rigorous professional knowledge and skills, enabling them to contribute to Taiwan's economic growth after graduation. Furthermore, in the context of globalization, our department strictly requires doctoral students to possess a certain level of English proficiency. In addition to offering more professional courses taught in English, we also require doctoral graduates to meet basic English language requirements. Moreover, we encourage and subsidize doctoral students to participate in international conferences, aiming to cultivate a broad international perspective and enhance their self-research and innovation capabilities.
