The State University of Milagro, has its origins in the State University of Guayaquil; created in session of the University Council of June 14, 1969, as University Cultural Extension, through the Faculty of Philosophy Letters and Education Sciences. On July 4, 1969, the University Extension of Milagro was officially inaugurated in a solemn session that was attended by Dr. Nicolás Castro Benítez, Rector of the University of Guayaquil.

Cooperation agreements in between institutions exist because of an existence of student academic mobility entering/exiting an university.
The mobility requisites for an entering student (in class / online) are:
*Submit form of Entering Mobility at UNEMI’s Interinstitutional Relations Department
Resume/CV (without annexes)
* Academic recommendation letter issued by a professor from the delivering university.
*National ID photocopy. For foreign students, a valid passport copy
*Signed Bi-lateral Agreement with original university and UNEMI – requisite that validates the classes’ homologation at the original university.
*In case it is required, process the Study Visa at the Ecuadorian Consulate/Embassy and submit it to UNEMI’s Interinstitutional Relations Department
*Submit Medical Insurance (National or international) to UNEMI’s Interinstitutional Relations Department
