Political science focuses on the uses and consequences of public authority in the allocation of societal resources. Faculty focus on problem-driven research that confronts both traditional and emerging challenges in the United States and throughout the world and specialize in American politics, institutions, and public law; global politics; public policy; political theory; political psychology; and American foreign and security policy. The undergraduate programs in Political Science are designed to prepare students to be more thoughtful consumers and producers of information related to political phenomenon in the U.S. and in other nations. More specifically, the school's programs teach students to: Identify important issues and challenges in political science and work to solve them; Recognize, construct, and evaluate arguments, and employ cogent arguments on relevant issues; Use evidence in the context of research and learn the methodologies of political science; Recognize and respond to alternative, diverse viewpoints, and understand the role of values and normative reasoning in relevant contexts. Options within the B.A. in Political Science: General Option, Prelaw Option, and Global Politics Option General: The General Option in the Political Science B.A. provides diverse training in American politics, comparative and international politics, policy and public administration, and a wide range of elective courses in political science. No specific major is required to be eligible for law school but political science is widely recognized as an excellent academic preparation for law school. The CAS Prelaw Advising Center assists all students interested in law school regardless of their intended major. Pre-Law: The Political Science Prelaw Option is designed to prepare students for law school and eventual careers in law. This curriculum reflects recommendations of the Association of American Law Schools. Global Politics: This option emphasizes comparative and international politics and includes an international experience that can be fulfilled through study abroad, an international internship, a minor in a foreign language or global studies, or ROTC. What you can do with a degree in political science: Government service, Public policy, Regional planning, Law, Campaign worker, Politics, Nonprofit administration, Consultant. Skills you can market with a degree in political science: Knowledge of political institutions and processes, Knowledge of public policies and their outcomes, Knowledge of political behavior, leadership, and decision making, Strong research and analytical skills, Logic, critical thinking, and problem solving skills, Effective written and oral communication, Cultural awareness and sensitivity, Ability to work independently or as a team member.

Applicants must have completed at least 12 years of school, culminating in an appropriate secondary certificate or external examination. (We may consider the first year or two of university in some countries to be secondary level.) Schooling should include preparation in humanities, mathematics, basic sciences, and social sciences. WSU requires a minimum grade point average of 2.70 (on a 4.00 scale). Preference is given to students whose grades are significantly above average. Other English Language Requirements: 550 paper-based (PBT) TOEFL, 213 computer-based (CBT) TOEFL, MELAB score of 77.
