The Agricultural and Food Systems degree program is an exciting, college-wide, interdisciplinary program that offers a Bachelor of Science degree with five majors from which to choose: Agricultural Technology; and Production Management; Agricultural Education; Organic Agriculture Systems; Agricultural and Food Business Economics; Agriculture and Food Security. In each major, emphasis is placed on gaining a solid background in the agricultural sciences, including learning to work with and in the complexity of agriculture and food systems. All students take a core set of classes in order to develop a broad interdisciplinary background while also studying specific subjects that prepare graduates for their chosen fields. An internship related to the students focus area is included in these requirements. Students are encouraged to participate as part-time employees in research programs and seek professional internships for applied learning experiences. Scholarships an financial aid are available based on ability, need, and interest. There are multiple opportunities for students to interact personally and professionally with faculty, staff, and other students outside of class through a wide range of activities, including numerous student clubs, field and/or lab jobs in research programs, and other events. Each major provides a broad background in agricultural and food systems along with advanced classes that allow students to develop expertise while following their own interests. Upon completion of the AFS degree, graduates will: 1. Identify and understand the interaction among key components that comprise agricultural and food systems across disciplines; 2. Obtain, evaluate, and apply scholarly information to expand understanding and knowledge-base of the systems; 3. Apply scientific and quantitative reasoning to address real world problems in agricultural and food systems; 4. Consider, evaluate, and integrate varying perspectives on issues related to agricultural and food systems; 5. Integrate ethical, economic, environmental, and cultural/societal contexts at the global and/or local level; 6. Communicate effectively to a broad range of audiences using appropriate traditional and emerging technological media; 7.Appreciate the breadth and depth of professional opportunities in agricultural and food systems; Provides graduates with a vast amount of job opportunities in rewarding fields such as management and business, scientific and engineering specialties, education, communication, governmental services, and agriculture and forestry production

Applicants must have completed at least 12 years of school, culminating in an appropriate secondary certificate or external examination. (We may consider the first year or two of university in some countries to be secondary level.) Schooling should include preparation in humanities, mathematics, basic sciences, and social sciences. WSU requires a minimum grade point average of 2.70 (on a 4.00 scale). Preference is given to students whose grades are significantly above average. Other English Language Requirements: 550 paper-based (PBT) TOEFL, 213 computer-based (CBT) TOEFL, MELAB score of 77.
