This option for a major in biology requires a minimum of 48 hours in biology with 24 hours at the 300 or higher level. No minor is required. A range of upper level courses are available in ecology and evolutionary biology, molecular and cellular biology, plant biology, animal biology, and microbiology. All students are required to complete BIOL 120-121 and BIOL 122-123. In addition, students must select 11 hours of restricted elective coursework chosen from the following. BIOL 222 / 223 or BIOL 224 / 225 or BIOL 226 / 227 BIOL 319 or BIOL 327 BIOL 322 or BIOL 337 BIOL 315 or BIOL 316 Students must also select five laboratory experience courses chosen from: BIOL 312, 321, 322, 324, 325, 326, 328, 331, 337, 348, 350, 400, 404, 405, 412, 447, 450, 456, 457, 458, 460, 470, 472, 485, 496, 497. In consultation with their advisor, students select majors-level coursework to obtain a minimum of 48 credits total, provided that at least 24 hours total are upper-division courses. Because an understanding of the principles of subjects outside of biology, in particular agriculture, chemistry, geography & geology, mathematics, physics and sociology is essential to the study of biology; majors are required to complete supporting courses as follow: MATH 116 and 117 or MATH 118 or higher PHYS 231-232 or PHYS 255-256 CHEM 120-121, and Two courses from the following list: AGRO 350 and AGRO 452 or AGRO 454 or AGRO 455/456 or AGRO 457/458, BIOL 382, CHEM 222/223, CHEM 314 or CHEM 340/341, CHEM 330, CIS 243, CIS 226 or CS 146, GEOG 316, GEOG 317, GEOG 328, GEOG 417, MATH 136, MATH 137, MATH 142, MATH 305, MATH 307, PHYS 332/233 or PHYS 265/266; SOCL 302. Students may count up to 6 credit hours of a combination of BIOL 369 and/or 399, and up to 4 credit hours of BIOL 485 toward this major.

Applicants must have a cumulative 2.50 GPA. Other English Language Requirements: TOEFL score of 525 on Paper-based test. Students can also prove English proficiency by completing ESLI or ELS Level 109.
